About Our Attorney

Amanda Byassee Gott is a native of Marion, Illinois, having graduated from Marion High School in1993 with numerous awards and accomplishments in both musical and academic pursuits.

She attended Illinois State University where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in1996, with a double major in music and political science. She then attended SIU School of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctor degree in 1999. She obtained her Illinois law license later that same year and has been practicing law in Southern Illinois ever since.

Amanda began her legal career working for Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. There she assisted victims of domestic violence in obtaining orders of protection and related family law proceedings, such as divorce, custody and support matters, pursuant to federal VOCA and VAWA grants.

A few years later, she transferred that knowledge into the private sector as an associate attorney for Bryant & Kautz, PC in Metropolis, Illinois. There, Amanda expanded her legal expertise to other areas of civil and criminal litigation. She handled collection actions, foreclosures, adoptions, estate and probate work, and personal injury actions, while continuing her expertise in areas of family law.

In 2002, Amanda opened her own law firm in Marion, Illinois, handling all types of civil cases, with the bulk of her practice devoted to family law, creditor rights, and probate matters. She continued to be retained in cases in Metropolis, Illinois, to such an extent that she maintained a satellite office in Metropolis from 2005-2011.

Many attribute her excellent representation of clients in family law cases to the fact that Amanda herself is a mother of 3 boys, with her youngest having a genetic disorder which requires special attention. She also continues assist victims of domestic violence in her private practice and maintain an active adoption practice, as well as handling all other aspects of family law issues. In addition, she continues her assistance to those who are indigent by handling pro-bono and reduced-fee cases through the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation.
Active Community Member
Amanda is active in the community and her local church, especially in regard to musical activities. She is a member of the Marion Cultural and Civic Center Foundation, member and soloist at First Baptist Church, and is an active office of the Marion Rotary Club. She is also involved in parents' associations for her children's sports in Marion, and often served as a homeroom parent for her children.

Amanda served as an elected member of the Marion Community Unit School District Number 2 School Board from 2005 to 2009. She is currently on the State of Illinois Character and Fitness Committee as appointed by Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier, assisting in interviewing and recommending persons to the Illinois Bar.
She was a former Miss Southern Illinois and Top 10 in Miss Illinois, and now serves as a judge for area scholarship pageants in the Miss America Scholarship Pageant System.

Amanda is an active runner and Marion sports fan, and you will often find her at local sporting events watching her boys play basketball, football, baseball or simply cheering on the Marion Wildcats.
